Reliable Used Cars from Chevrolet, Mazda, and Nissan

Used Cars

Finding reliable used cars is no longer a difficult proposition. Many top brands have at least a few models that stand out in terms of reliability, and can save you a lot of money at the same time.

Let’s take a look at what popular models from Chevrolet, Mazda, and Nissan have to offer.

Chevrolet Impala

The Chevrolet Impala is a large family sedan that features a plush ride, spacious cabin, user-friendly infotainment system, and a bigger than average trunk. It’s also one of Chevy’s top models when it comes to reliability ratings. The Impala’s latest model is 2020, which means you can get a car that’s only a few years old on the used market. You can save even more money if you go back to the 2018 or 2019 model years, which were largely the same as the 2020.
Since the Impala is part of the family sedan category, space is probably one of its most important features, and the Impala has a lot of space. The trunk offers 18.8 cubic feet of space, which is one of the largest in its class. Very few rivals can match up with the rear passenger room in the Impala either. It easily seats average-size adults.
On the road, the Impala provides a serene ride and effortless power with a 3.6-liter V6 on the 2020 model. For slightly better fuel economy, you can get an older model with a 197-horsepower four-cylinder.

Mazda MX-5

On the opposite end of the spectrum comes the Mazda MX-5. Rated as one of Mazda’s most reliable cars, this fun two-seater may not feature the raw power of some other sports cars, but it’s agile, fuel-efficient, and just plain fun to drive. Finding it on the used market isn’t difficult either as it’s one of Mazda’s most popular models.
The Mazda MX-5 used to be known as just the Miata, but given Mazda’s new naming conventions, it’s now the MX-5. If you decide to pursue a used MX-5, you can generally find one in the $25,000 or less range if you go back to at least 2019. A 2018 Mazda MX-5 comes in three trims, with the middle Club trim being the most popular for a balance of affordability and its long list of standard features.

Nissan Murano

Reliability data generally comes from how many problems a vehicle has as well as recalls. Above-average reliability is what you should look for when it comes to used cars. Nissan, as with most other brands, has varying reliability ratings depending on the model. The Nissan Murano crossover SUV is one of its top reliable brands. Consumer Reports data shows that the Murano is about as dependable as they come for a family SUV.
The Nissan Murano offers a powerful 260-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. It’s roomy inside and includes many of the latest safety and tech features in models only a few years old. Prices for a used Nissan Murano vary from under $20,000 for a 2015 model to around $25,000 for a 2019 model.

It’s not a secret that you can save money with used cars. Even if you buy a model that’s only a few years older than the latest model, it’s likely to be heavily discounted. That’s because new cars immediately depreciate when you drive them off the lot.
