Some don’t like to look too far into the future, but automakers must. Porsche is working on a new SUV that should arrive for the 2027 model year.
This new SUV will be the next flagship model from the lauded performance brand. The project has a codename, much like many other projects from other automakers. The codename for this new SUV is K1. Porsche isn’t only beginning development of this new model now; it’s already been in development for the past three years. This new model should be a large, three-row luxury SUV riding on an EV platform.
Much more than an oversized Cayenne
Although Porsche hasn’t released any information regarding the style and look of this new model, it has been called a few different things. Among these descriptions is a vehicle that’s part saloon, part crossover, offering a new flagship SUV that bears the Porsche name. We should see influences from the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo coupled with traditional SUV qualities that will make this SUV one of the most impressive models from this brand. If you’re looking for a new flagship from Porsche, it will be here in 2027.
Shh, we’ve got a few details
The new K1 project is expected to have specific styling elements that can make it an amazing option when it’s time to hit the road. This new Porsche SUV should bring a short hood, aerodynamic windshield, curved roof, and liftback rear end. We can expect a sophisticated air suspension to provide adjustable levels of ground clearance, which can make it easy to take this new SUV from a family hauler to an off roader where you’ll have some fun on the trails. Could this be the perfect SUV for you to drive and enjoy?
This new Porsche takes on a special place
The new Porsche K1 must fit into the market the right way. The next flagship model should have lots of room for passengers, cargo and still maintain the sportiness desired of a vehicle from this brand. This new model will need to pack in more luxury if it’s expected to sit above the Panamera in the lineup. We might see some of the same qualities found in the new 2024 Cayenne carried over to the new K1 model. This means the new model will take on a special place in the lineup.
The parts bin has changed for this Porsche
This new Porsche SUV will not only use some of the same EV qualities found in other VW Group models but the parts bin being used has changed during development. Originally, the K1 was to use a special version of the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), but that has since changed to a larger and stronger version of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform. Porsche and Audi developed this new platform together to be the platform used for several of the new large SUVs coming down the line.
Performance, power, driving range expected
We don’t have any details at the moment, but the most recent information tells us the new K1 should feature a battery with 920V technology to deliver ultra-fast charging rates. We should also enjoy a large capacity battery that offers more than 435 miles of driving range on a full charge. This new Porsche SUV should have four electric motors that deliver more than 750 horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque. These are the power levels of the current Porsche Taycan Turbo S; development from now until the first actual model year could bring more power and driving range to the K1.
Expect Porsche levels of driving performance
Porsche is well known for its incredible performance and driving dynamics. We can expect this new flagship SUV to be the product of some of the most incredible Porsche development in performance and driving technology. You’ll find amazing driving dynamics, comfort, and sharpness on every road and track from this new SUV. Of course, because this is a new three-row SUV, we don’t expect the K1 to be all about lap times but about driving dynamics and family travel.
This new electric three-row Porsche SUV expands the lineup beyond the two models we currently see from this brand. Before the K1 arrives, the Cayenne and Macan will both have electric models, which is in keeping with the movement from gas-powered Porsche vehicles to new EVs that are ready to take on the driving world.
