Mitsubishi Mirage Discontinued: Farewell to the Affordable Tiny Car

Are there any cars still offered that you wouldn’t mind being deleted from the market? The Mitsubishi Mirage is high on this list.

Did you know that Mirage was still around? Unless you’re a big fan of this tiny car and what it offers, you probably don’t even know it’s still offered in the United States. The 2025 model year will feature a Mitsubishi lineup that doesn’t include the small hatchback/sedan that most people hate and never want to see offered again. While it’s heading to the end of its run, this little car has had some bright spots along the way.

A pillar of affordability

The Mirage might not win any races on the road, and it certainly doesn’t look like a car that most drivers would want to experience. Still, this little car is one of the most affordable vehicles in the entire market. Of course, that price signals a “you get what you pay for” thought from many people, making it a car that doesn’t exactly win any awards in its class. The Mirage is that last thought for many drivers, but you can’t argue against its affordable pricing.

The fuel savings are impressive

The big picture for the Mitsubishi Mirage and the Mirage G4 sedan variant is that these cars are efficient. The fuel mileage figures and use of the most affordable gasoline make the Mirage a good choice for those on a tight budget. The hatchback version gets 36 city/43 hwy mpg while the G4 sedan returns 35 city/41 hwy mpg. This means this car has the fuel mileage you need without the requirement to move up and use higher-octane fuel, which is what you have to use in turbocharged vehicles.

A friendly little car

The Mirage might not be the most attractive or interesting car on the market, but it is a friendly little car. Whether you choose the hatchback or the sedan, this little Mitsubishi looks like an easy car to drive and a vehicle that can give you an easy drive. There aren’t any hidden tricks that you’ll discover later. Like the price, the look and feel of the Mirage is “what you see is what you get,” making it an enjoyable commuter car for some.

Does the Mirage have enough features?

The Mitsubishi Mirage is one of the most affordable cars in the market, but that doesn’t mean it’s not equipped with items you want and need. Some of the standard items you’ll find in the Mirage are:

Some items that are standard on most other vehicles but optional for the Mirage pair are:

What happens to the Mitsubishi lineup?

Once the Mirage is gone, the Mitsubishi lineup will only have SUVs. This shouldn’t be too much of a concern, Buick only has SUVs and it seems to be doing fine. The focus on SUVs makes perfect sense for this Japanese brand. The new Outlander receives some upgrades including revised styling and more luxurious features. That might not be a lot to go on, but its enough to let us know the Outlander will be different and better.

The new Outlander lineup should also feature an improved PHEV powertrain that extends the EV driving range. This means more of what we want from the electrified SUV. Mitsubishi also hinted that this new PHEV model would have smoother and more powerful acceleration and a higher output, which might make it a more serious contender in its class.

Unfortunately, the new PHEV Outlander won’t arrive in America for 2025. Still, we will have a model that features upgraded styling and improvements that should include a revised color palette, revised wheels, ventilated semi-aniline leather seats, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, and a new Yamaha premium audio system.

Carryover Outlander Sport

The 2025 Outlander Sport model will carry over untouched, and the Eclipse Cross receives Rear Seat Alert. The Eclipse Cross SE has an updated Black Edition that will receive a new front lip and rear spoiler.

Now that the Mitsubishi Mirage is finally out of production, the brand’s lineup will only have SUVs, which are pretty good models in their respective classes. The Mirage won’t be missed, and some people might already think the Mirage is gone, but now it officially will be.
