What is a Hyundai Staria?

The Hyundai Staria is a passenger van with a unique design. It comes in a Cargo model and a Tourer model, but it is currently not available in the US.

In US currency, both Staria models have a starting price below $30,000. Hyundai may expand the Staria to other markets by the end of 2024.

Staria Lineup Expands with Self-Charging Hybrid

Joining the 2024 Hyundai Tucson for sale as well as other hybrid Hyundai models, the Staria van gets a self-charging hybrid for 2024. This updated model will offer more power and better fuel economy than the Staria’s existing engines. Previously, the Staria was available with a 2.2-liter diesel or a 3.5-liter petrol V6.

The new electrified setup combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine and a single electric motor. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. The gas engine alone makes 178 horsepower, while the electric motor can make up to 72 horsepower. The combined output is good for 242 horsepower.

The new Hyundai Staria hybrid offers the most power for the van to date. It makes more power than the V6 option, plus it returns better fuel economy at up to 30.6 MPG combined. With a stylish, albeit chunky design, the Staria is used both as a delivery van and a people-hauler.

Updates and Features

The hybrid Staria doesn’t add any visual updates. It features a futuristic LED strip in the front and a massive windshield. The rest of the van also features large windows, giving the interior a light and airy feeling. The Cargo model can be had with three or five seats, while the passenger Tourer model offers either nine or 11 seats.

Other options include a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, automatic climate control, and heated/ventilated seats. Some interior updates include a USB-C charging port, front parking sensors, and a new smart key. Hyundai also offers various practical accessories, including a luggage partition table, a sliding cargo floor on the Cargo models, and a tailgate-mounted multi-hanger.

In the Korean market, the Staria Hybrid is available now. The Cargo model starts at $25,711 and the Tourer model starts at $27,364. It’s currently unknown if Hyundai will import the Staria Hybrid to the USA or other markets.

Hyundai Staria Basics

The Hyundai Staria has been around since 2021. It was produced to replace the Starex, which was a RWD van. The Staria features a FWD layout, but it can also be had with AWD. The van is currently available in South Korea, Southeast Asia, South Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and some European countries.

The Staria’s design has a futuristic aesthetic with the entire van appearing similar to a spaceship. The large windows give the cabin a wide-open, airy feel. The regular Staria comes in a base model and a premium model. The cargo model isn’t available in every market.

While there are currently no plans to bring the Hyundai Staria stateside, the van would definitely stand out if it were made available.
