The largest members of the Jeep SUV family are difficult to tell apart. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer are the same size. What are the differences?
In most cases, automakers add descriptive parts to a name to inform consumers of the differences in the sizes of vehicles. GM does it with the Yukon and Yukon XL, Lexus has the RX and RX L, and even Jeep offers the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L to describe differences. Strangely, the two largest Jeep SUVs are the same size, which brings us to our question about the differences between these two SUVs.
More chrome for the Grand Wagoneer
The Grand Wagoneer lives up to the Grand part of its name with an upscale appearance compared to its platform mate. This means an exterior covered with more chrome, a black roof, upscale LED lighting accents, a different hood, and larger fender flares. When placed side-by-side, the visual differences stand out. You’ll also find power-retractable running boards as part of the standard package for the Grand Wagoneer. These running boards are available for the Wagoneer but not as a standard feature.
Larger wheels and special colors
When reviewing some of the differences between the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, you’ll find a longer list of available colors and wheels for the grander model. The Wagoneer has wheel sizes ranging from 18-22 inches, while the Grand Wagoneer starts at 20-inch rims. There are a few exclusive colors for the grander model as well, including Midnight Sky Blue, Rocky Mountain Green, and Ember Pearl. Several colors can be had with blacked-out appearance features when you order the Grand Wagoneer, but only the Carbide package offers this quality in the Wagoneer.
Upscale Jeep opulence in the grandest way
As expected, and you should feel a bit of a theme by now, the Grand Wagoneer has a more upscale interior package compared to the Wagoneer. Both of these three-row Jeep SUVs offer impressive comfort and quality packages for the desired interior feel, but the Grand Wagoneer has nicer leather and wood trim. The Wagoneer has a standard second-row bench seat to ensure you have room for up to eight passengers in its standard form. The Grand Wagoneer comes with second-row captain’s chairs instead of a bench seat.
Some features are exclusive to the Grand Wagoneer
When you’re looking for a long list of optional features, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer has more to give than the Wagoneer. Some o the optional items that are exclusive to the Grand Wagoneer include four-zone climate controls, 24-way power seats, and a McIntosh audio system with more speakers than the Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer also has more screens on the dashboard and larger rear screens for passengers. One area where you don’t find more for one than the other is in the safety tech.
Infotainment screen differences
The Jeep Wagoneer gives you a 10.1-inch center touchscreen and a separate 10.3-inch display for the front passenger. As expected, the Grand Wagoneer includes a larger 12.0-inch center touchscreen with another 10.2-inch screen below this unit for the HVAC system. The front passenger has the same display in the Grand Wagoneer as in the Wagoneer. Passengers in the second row have a pair of 10.3-inch screens to keep these passengers entertained during the drive.
Two different powertrains
The base engine for the Wagoneer is the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine that delivers 392 horsepower. Owners that desire the Hurricane engine can have it as a no-cost option. This engine is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes 420 horsepower.
The Grand Wagoneer starts with a 6.4-liter V8 that provides 471 horsepower but can also be upgraded to a high-output version of the Hurricane engine. This higher-output model provides 510 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The powertrains are another distinct difference between these two Jeep SUVs.

As expected, the Jeep Wagoneer has a lower price range than the Grand Wagoneer. The Wagoneer comes in four trims with the following prices:

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer starts out at a higher price point than the top model of the Wagoneer. The grander version offers pricing of:

These two top-end Jeep SUVs are luxurious, feature-laden, impressive, full-size family haulers that offer incredible features and driving qualities. Although the same size, its easy to see the differences between the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer when viewed together.
