Chevrolet Corvette CX Concept: A 2,000-Horsepower Electric Hypercar with a Fighter Jet Canopy

Chevrolet Corvette CX concept

The craziest Corvette ever built just made its LA debut. The Chevrolet Corvette CX concept is wild and extremely powerful.

The Corvette CX concept at the LA Auto Show packs over 2,000 horsepower from four electric motors and opens with a fighter-jet canopy instead of doors. At just 41 inches tall, this all-wheel-drive hypercar uses vacuum fans built into the bodywork to suck air through channels and create massive downforce; the same idea as the McMurtry Speirling. The digital windscreen display on the windshield shows real-time track data, racing lines, and braking points, while every control lives on the steering wheel. Chevy says this won’t be the C9 Corvette, but the aggressive design language will inspire future production models. You can drive both the CX and racing-focused CX.R Vision Gran Turismo Corvette version in Gran Turismo 7.

The Chevrolet Corvette CX concept takes advantage of its electric motors

Before we get into the amazing power offered by this all-wheel drive electric supercar, let’s consider the future Corvette design presented. This Corvette brings a fighter jet canopy to the sports car world, making it one of the most incredible openings that you’ve ever seen. Forget gullwing or scissor doors, the entire canopy, from the front of the car to the rear of the cabin compartment, lifts up for the passengers to enter and exit the car. The dramatic operation was on display at the LA Auto Show 2025, giving the crowd a show that no other concept could steal from the Corvette hypercar concept. That roof design could actually be utilized in the current C8 Corvette since the engine resides behind the passenger compartment, and it wouldn’t be surprising if this becomes a signature part of the C9 Corvette generation.

This 2000-horsepower electric Corvette is awesome

The Chevrolet Corvette CX concept pulls out all the stops. Instead of housing one of the Chevy’s signature V8 engines behind the seats, it has four electric motors, one on each wheel, to combine for an insane 2,000 horsepower. This power comes from a 90-kWh battery pack that’s built into the chassis, helping give the hypercar a much lower center of gravity than its predecessor. The craziest part of the build is the smallish rear wing. With all that power on tap, you would think this car needs a massive wing to keep it planted on the ground, but that’s not the case.

Much like the Ford GT, this new Corvette CX has mastered airflow through the body and lower half to ensure it stays securely planted on the ground. There is a deployable rear wing, which can be used, when necessary, but this Corvette concept has a secret weapon onboard.

Its sucked to the ground

What does a vacuum do? It sucks up dirt and debris around your home to clean the floors. That suction force can be utilized in a much larger application to help keep cars stuck to the tarmac. The Corvette CX takes a page out of the McMurtry Speirling book, which is a famous fan car, to use integrated fans to pull air through the body, which increases downforce and grip. This car has to have a way to keep it on the ground, considering the amount of horsepower produced, and these fans create the vacuum function required to make that happen.

A second Chevrolet Corvette CX concept car was made

The Corvette design team created a second version of the CX to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Corvette Racing program. This model is called the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, and it comes with more aggressive aero elements, including the massive rear wing that you expect to find on any hypercar that produces the power numbers of this Corvette. The CX.R is also lower and lighter, making it a bit more hardcore than the regular CX.

Not an EV

Unlike the CX, the CX.R is not an EV and has a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter V8 engine that is mid-mounted and capable of producing up to 900 horsepower. Aided by three electric motors, the CX.R produces 2,000 horsepower and provides the driver with AWD, making it an interesting application of power. This hardcore concept racer takes renewable e-fuel for the gas engine, adding to its advanced technology.

The new Chevrolet Corvette CX concept is likely going to serve as inspiration for future Corvette models, but also gives you an idea of what Chevy can do with the Corvette. If you want to enjoy this car, or its hardcore counterpart, you’ll need to play the Gran Turismo 7 game, where both cars are available to drive and enjoy. It’s unlikely either model will ever make it to the production line in real life.
