The most popular electric vehicle in the world is the Nissan Leaf. Recently, Nissan brought the new AWD Ariya with E-4orce.
This new electric SUV offers an amazing way for drivers to enter the EV world. The handling of the new Ariya is excellent, but the performance isn’t quite as neck-snapping as you might like. Still, this combination of handling and smooth driving performance allows the Ariya to be an excellent transition vehicle for many drivers to get into the electric vehicle market. Could this be the right EV for you; let’s find out.
What powers the Ariya?
This new electric SUV is only the second EV from the Nissan brand. You can have this vehicle in both FWD and AWD models, with the E-4orce version being the AWD variant. The biggest difference between the two is how many motors drive the wheels. There’s a choice of batteries with either a 63-kWh model or an 87-kWh version. All models of the Ariya come with a battery heater to help make it easier to get going on cold mornings. The center screen also offers a battery pre-conditioning function to help you get the most out of every mile of driving range.
What’s the driving range of this Nissan electric SUV?
The driving range of this Nissan EV depends on the trim, how many motors are used, and the battery pack. The base Engage model is only offered as a single-motor version with 214 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The estimated driving range is 216 miles on a full charge.
Move into the Venture+ trim, and you’ve found the driving range champion of the lineup. This version gives you the larger battery pack with 238 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. If you want the most miles you can get in the Nissan Ariya; this trim delivers 304 miles on a single full charge.
The next three trims, Evolve+, Empower+, and Premier, all use the larger battery pack and single motor to deliver 289 miles of driving range. These trims give you the same amount of power as the Venture+ trim.
Moving into the Nissan Ariya E-4orce versions with two electric motors, you will find the Engage trim with the smaller battery pack. This version of the Nissan electric SUV delivers 335 horsepower, 413 lb-ft of torque, and up to 205 miles of driving range. Add the larger battery pack in the Engage+, Evolve+, and Platinum+ E-4orce trims, and you’ve got 3389 horsepower, 442 lb-ft of torque, and up to 270 miles of overall driving range.
What else does this new Nissan electric SUV offer?
In addition to the AWD E-4orce system of this new Nissan electric SUV, you’ll find a few great items in the Ariya. Some of these include:
ProPilot Assist 2.0
The ProPilot Assist 2.0 system is part of the Premier trim and above as standard packaging. This system provides hands-free driving on some highways, making it much easier to take this SUV out for a ride when you want to experience a relaxed and confident drive without the need to worry about steering, accelerating, or braking. The blue steering wheel light on the dashboard helps you know this system is working for you.
e-Step
The regenerative braking system found in the Nissan Ariya is called e-Step, and it allows one-pedal driving to smoothly slow the SUV when you take your foot off the accelerator to let the vehicle slow down.
Voice Commands
If you’ve ever used an electronic assistant in your home, you know that you’ve got to say “Hey, Alexa” or “Hey, Google” to get the assistant to do what you want. The voice commands in the Ariya work the same way. Once you say, “Hey, Nissan,” you can easily give the desired command and tell the system what you want to do.
Zero Gravity Seats
The front seats in the Ariya are called Zero Gravity seats, and they help you maintain a neutral posture while driving. This nearly weightless environment gives you the most comfortable seats you’ll find in a non-luxury car. If you do a lot of long driving, you’ll be glad to have these seats.
