Meet Chevrolet’s Most Capable Trucks

Options abound when it comes to 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD and 2500HD trucks. Read on to find a breakdown of the heavy duty Silverados that will introduce everything you need to know to choose the right ones.

Two Heavy-Duty Options for Serious Haulers

While truck enthusiasts expect the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD to be the line’s most popular model, it’s not the only one available. Drivers can choose between the 3500HD and the less powerful but more fuel-efficient 2500HD.

The Silverado 2500HD comes standard with a 6.6L V-8 engine that offers 401 HP and 464 lb-ft of torque. This popular engine comes paired with a 10-speed Allison transmission. The 2500HD can also be outfitted with optional switchable four-wheel drive or a turbocharged Duramax diesel V-8 engine.

The primary differences between the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500HD and the 2500 are towing capacity and payload. While the 3500HD can haul up to 36,000 lbs with a max payload of 7,442 lbs, the 2500HD has a towing capacity of only 18,500 lbs and a max payload of 3,900.

Standard Gas vs. Optional Diesel Engines

Like the 2500HD, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500HD comes standard with a 6.6L naturally aspirated V-8 but can be outfitted with the optional Duramax diesel engine. The standard gas engine is capable, but the Duramax is a beast. This holdover from the 2023 Silverado HD produces 470 HP of power and an impressive 975 lb-ft of torque.

Drivers who are serious about hauling heavy loads will find that the diesel engine is worth the upgrade. Coupled with the line’s renowned Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, it makes towing even heavy loads near the top of the model’s range a breeze.

Choosing a Trim Level

Every one of Chevy’s Silverado HD trucks is more than capable of towing anything the average driver has to throw at it. Those looking for more than a powerful engine and plenty of torque will be happy to know that Chevy offers trim packages for every price range.

The Work Truck (WT) offers standard features that include 4WD, an automatic locking differential, and an impressive safety package. True to the model’s form, even this entry-level truck comes standard with vertical trailering mirrors and a 12-tie-down Durabed that makes it easy to manage cargo safely.

The LT trim level is the first to offer many of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500HD and 2500HD’s newest features. Drivers who choose this truck will get infotainment upgrades like a 13.4” color touchscreen display and 12.3” Driver Information Center, plus wireless smartphone charging and a keyless open/smart start system.

Chevy’s LTZ trim package adds some extra luxury features like power-folding mirrors, perforated leather-upholstered power-adjustable front seats, a trailering app to monitor and optimize performance, and a hitch view camera. Only the line-topping High Country comes standard with the line’s open-pore wood trim, front and rear heated seats, and eye-catching exterior upgrades.

Choosing the Right Silverado HD

Choosing the right 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500HD is easy. All it takes is a trip to a local dealership to speak with a sales rep and take one or more of these impressive models out for a test drive.
