Whenever a new vehicle is added to the market there are some early issues that tend to arise. The Chevrolet team was able to race to the EV market with their affordable Bolt model that showed up as the long-range solution to EV driving more than six months ahead of the Tesla Model 3. The low price and the long-range make this one of the most popular choices and will certainly aid the EV market in taking more of the share of sales as long as these vehicles continue to be affordable and dependable on the road. So far, there haven’t been any complaints with the new Bolt, but it has run into one small hiccup that Chevrolet is working to correct and ensure a fix can be offered.
The Hiccup
The issue that’s been found for the Chevy Bolt affects and early run of the car that shows a higher than actual reading for the battery life left in the car. This could be a serious problem for some owners who depend on this information to make sure they aren’t left stranded on the side of the road. Thankfully, the reports show this issue affects less than one percent of the models that are on the road, making it only a small number that needs to be fixed in order to be made whole again and ready to drive with the right information.
The data for this issue shows that one or more of the LG Chem produced battery cells could malfunction and show a false range data. The fix for this is to replace the entire battery pack, regardless of the number that is malfunctioning. Chevrolet has agreed to replace these battery packs and make these cars able to drive on the roads with the right data on the screen. This small bump in the road was to be expected for a new vehicle and if this is all that we see as troublesome with the Chevy Bolt, this will be a car that has become a huge success right out of the gate.
