Today’s trucks are becoming alarmingly expensive, but the Ford Maverick is the exception to the rule. Learn what you need to know about this affordable pickup.
The Ford Maverick is a midsize pickup truck that comes standard with a comfortable cabin, practical bed, and many of the features found in full-size models. Whether drivers are doing light-duty work at home or want a daily driver that’s a little more practical, it’s a great choice.
Prices Starting at Under $30,000
The Ford Maverick is the only pickup truck you can buy new for less than $30,000. When it launched in 2022, it garnered the automotive world’s attention with its thoughtful design and competitive pricing.
The entry-level Maverick XL costs just $28,145. Even the highest trim level, the Tremor, comes in at only $40,995, which is close to the starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSPR) for many full-size models.
You’ll have several trim levels to choose from, including a new Lobo trim for the 2025 model year. This performance-oriented trim features paddle shifters and a lowered suspension. Adventurous drivers love the Tremor, while those looking for extra comfort typically choose the Lariat.
What’s New This Year?
Ford did more for 2025 than just adding the Lobo trim. The automaker has made several significant changes to the Maverick for this model year, including refreshing its exterior styling with a redesigned front bumper and grille.
Inside the cabin, Ford upgraded the Maverick’s infotainment system to have a larger screen and standard wireless smartphone connectivity. Hybrid models now come with available AWD, and the 2025 Maverick gets more standard driver assistance features than those found at today’s used car dealers.
Two Powertrain Options
The Maverick doesn’t just offer great value at the dealership. You’ll also save money at the pump thanks to its thrifty powertrain options. Choose from a 191-hp 2.4L Hybrid I-4 or a 250-hp 2.0L turbo I-4 engine. Neither is exceptionally powerful, but both offer a comfortable middle ground between power and efficiency.
Every model, aside from the Lobo, gets the hybrid I-4 standard. The alternative 2.0L turbo engine is significantly quicker and comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD). Both engines support a tow package capable of towing up to 4,000 lbs.
Excellent Design Inside and Out
The Ford Maverick is well-designed both inside and out. Inside the cabin, it uses innovative storage solutions and has all the features required to make a good work truck or daily driver.
Every model comes with a double cab and features a 4.5-foot bed. The cab is spacious, and the FLEXBED design offers many different tie-down points, an adjustable tailgate, and pockets for securing 2x4s and 2x6s.
Infotainment and Ammenities
The Ford Maverick sports a large 13.2-inch infotainment screen, which is quite impressive for a budget model. Surprisingly, it also comes standard with wireless smartphone connectivity and an in-car WiFi hotspot.
Despite the price tag, the Maverick also has a wealth of features that make it feel relatively premium. Add the available wireless charging pad or upgrade to a higher trim level for an impressive Bang and Olufsen sound system.
Is It Worth Buying New?
The older models of the Ford Maverick found at used car dealers are pretty impressive and offer a better buy for the most budget-conscious drivers. The 2025 models have been refreshed, though, and they still provide a fantastic value for the money if you prefer to buy a new truck.
