We will see a new 2022 Subaru BRZ arrive and this new model does more than simply give us a second generation for this small sports car.
What we find with this new entry into the sports car class is a commitment to allowing lightweight small sports cars to be offered for our driving pleasure. Since very few of these cars are around now, this is a pretty big deal.
What Makes the BRZ So Important
Think of the sports cars that are in the same class as the Subaru BRZ, how many can you come up with? Currently, you’ll think of its platform-mate, the Toyota 86, which might be 86-ed in the near future now that the Supra is back, the Mazda MX-5 Miata, and the Fiat 124 Spider. That’s it! Unless you can come up with another mainstream small sportscar, which maybe you can put the new Hyundai Veloster N in this class, you don’t have any others to add to the mix.
Expected Improvements to the Subaru BRZ
The new model of the BRZ will offer dramatic improvements over the current version. This new model has its sights set on better performance, more safety, modern features, and the fun you’ve enjoyed in this car so far. We hope this car is able to hit all of the marks and give you the small sports car that you can continue to love and drive.
BRZ Sales in 2020 Solidified the Decision
Like all automakers, Subaru faced a downward spiral of sales during the first half of 2020. Strangely though, as the year progressed, more buyers were looking at the BRZ as the car of choice. By the end of the year, the sales for the BRZ weren’t as low as expected considering the pandemic, which made the decision to keep this car around much easier for this brand.
Why is this Car so Special?
In a world where we only have a few small and affordable sports cars, the Subaru BRZ fits a specific need. The need and desire to drive a sports car that’s fun on the road without spending a lot of money is what makes the BRZ special. In fact, the entire segment, while small in numbers, is one driven by this simple desire and it makes sense to keep the BRZ production going.
More Power for the Drive
The 2022 Subaru BRZ will still be a car that doesn’t have a turbocharger attached to the engine. Even so, we will have more power coming from the engine. A new 2.4-liter flat four-cylinder engine is used to give you 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,700 rpm. This means you’ll have all the torque sooner than before. You still have the same transmission choices but much more power and quickness for the drive.
More of the upgrades for the new Subaru BRZ will be offered as we move closer to the release date which will be sometime in the early autumn of this year. Until then, get ready to enjoy what this impressive sports car has for your driving pleasure.
